Sounds of the Ocean, the critically acclaimed immersive performance, enchanted a sold-out audience of 450 people in Berlin on November 9th, 2024, at the Colosseum Kino. Led by marine activist and composer Joshua Sam Miller, the event transported guests on a transformative journey into the heart of the ocean.
The performance, a powerful blend of art, activism, and education, utilized a unique combination of soundscapes, movement, and visuals to explore the ocean's mysterious depths and its ethereal beauty. Guest vocalist and sound healer WHAIA and co-producer Elise Lein joined Miller in creating a truly unforgettable experience.
"Sounds of the Ocean" is not just about entertainment; it's a call to action. Through a seamless fusion of sound, film and live performance orchestrated the story of harsh realities marine life faces due to the increasing plastic and noise pollution contaminating the water, all in an effort to raise awareness for ocean conservation. The impact transcends beyond leaving a powerful message, for every ticket sold Everwave removes 1kg of plastic waste from the ocean.

In collaboration with the UN Ocean Decade and Everwave, the performance inspired audiences, widening their perspectives as it narrates the dangers that lurk through the depths of the ocean. The topic of plastic pollution was illustrated in visuals that harmoniously paired with the intense soundscapes of electronic beats mixed with a live set, gradually evolving into an intense, climax underscoring how urgent this issue is in modern society.
Contrastingly, the stillness that followed from Blue Whale montages and eloquently crafted low bass frequencies delivered a sense of peace that deeply resonated with the audiences transcending them into the depths of the ocean. With Tibetan singing bowls, the audience experiences a “vibroacoustic sonic message” designed to ease the mind using sound therapy principles and effortlessly reminds them of the profound connection that lies between the deep sea and the universe. The striking contrast guided by ethereal tones allowed audiences to be a part of a transcending experience, opening perspectives and hearts.
The performance left a memorable impression on the audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for nature and reminding us just how powerful connection and community is in the natural world. Future shows are planned for Fall 2025, including an upcoming show at the Berlin Planetarium. WHAIA is expected to continue as a featured performer in these upcoming events.
