DANCÆ returns to Monopol with a new series of performances, presenting the reworked “Modalities of Me.” The production runs from March 20 to 29, with an exclusive press preview on March 18.
The evening opens with acclaimed Berlin-based choreographer Tess Voelker, whose autobiographical solo explores memory and presence through nuanced, minimal gestures. Voelker invites the audience into a space where meaning emerges from restraint and the subtlest of shifts.
In the second act, DANCÆ’s Ballet Sur_real ensemble presents “Modalities of Me.” Five figures, representing power, chaos, duplicity, fragility, and ferality, move through and transform the space, dissolving boundaries between choreography and architecture. The performance unfolds within a striking installation composed of glass, sunlight, and electrochromic films, created by Encor Studios, that shift with the atmosphere, mirroring the changing nature of identity and desire.
Choreographed by Soraya Schulthess, founder of DANCÆ, and set to electronic music by ogtrues with contributions from VINVAR, the piece immerses audiences in a dynamic interplay of dance, sound, and space. The music’s hypnotic textures and emotional depth echo the performance’s investigation of intimacy and volatility in contemporary life.
