Berlin-based sound artist and composer Stefanie Egedy brings her innovative installation BODIES AND SUBWOOFERS to the TAR Festival, with her largest setup yet. TAR Festival takes place at Oulu, Finland, from November 11-15.
Egedy will use 16 SL-Subs to create a bespoke low-frequency sound experience that is sure to make waves across Oulu. As part of the TAR Festival programme, Egedy will also be teaching a low-frequency workshop, giving the audience a glimpse into her process of creating unique sound experiences.
BODIES AND SUBWOOFERS is a series of installations in which Egedy creates bespoke vibrational arrangements totally unique to the space, urging participants to consider their relationship to sound and its physical manifestations. Taking into account a space's dimensions and the type of subwoofers being used, Egedy builds a vibrational experience totally unique to that moment in time. One is invited to truly feel what the artist describes as "the invisible touch of sound", an auditory yet deeply tactile sensation. The installation has been crafted to fit historic churches, outdoor spaces, and now, the sub-arctic stage of the Tarkastamo venue at TAR Festival.

About Stefanie Edgey
Born in São Paolo, Brazil, Stefanie Egedy's path to her current work began by observing the calming effects of sound vibration at music venues and concerts. Moving to Berlin, she commenced research and experimentation involving the relationships between sound waves, physical spaces, and the human body, developing a curiosity for the possible therapeutic advantages of low-frequency vibrations. She explores these ideas with installations such as "SONIC ENERGETICS" and, of course, "BODIES AND SUBWOOFERS". Currently, she is pursuing a PhD on low-frequency sound at the University of Aberdeen.
