DANCÆ, in collaboration with define creative, will perform twice on Friday, October 23 with Chlär, as part of ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event). Six DANCÆ performers will dance to a live set by Chlär, interacting with the sound, light, and space of Bajes Amsterdam, a former prison which closed down in 2016.
The event is a continuation of DANCÆ's collaboration with Chlär, and follows their six sold out collaborative performances in Berlin. The show places sound at the center of the choreographic experience. Rather than treating music as accompaniment, the performance explores how movement can emerge through sound and how they influence one another in real time.
The location of the ADE DANCÆ x Chlär performance is a former prison that once stood as a stern and imposing symbol of confinement and restriction. Located in the south of Amsterdam, this now historic venue has been given a new lease on life as part of the iconic "Levenslang" club. DANCÆ are no strangers to unique and repurposed locations: their most recent show in Berlin, Rattleskin, took place in CANK, an abandoned C&A department store in Neukölln.
